Prof. Kamal Youcef-Toumi

Youcef-Toumi's research has focused primarily on design, systems and control theory. Throughout his research career, he has strived to maintain a balance between theoretical aspects and practical applications. These areas include robotics, precision machines, manufacturing automation, high density memory and subnanometer precision devices and profilometry. In 1987, Youcef-Toumi was selected as a National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator in recognition of research and teaching accomplishments and academic potential. In 1988, he became one of three recipients of the Carl Richard Soderberg Career Development Chair given by MIT's School of Engineering. He has served on several professional committees of the National Science Foundation, and is the current chair of MIT's Mechanical Engineering Curriculum Committee. Youcef-Toumi teaches courses in the fields of dynamic systems, modelling, simulation and controls, robotics, and precision machine design, analysis, and controls.
