Can opportunities for civic engagement be more seamlessly integrated into our daily lives? Placing a layer of civic actions on top of the urban environment aims to continue the tradition of Jane Jacobs, whereby walking down the street can be a public act, bettering your community through observation and engagement. The problem is that so much traditional civic action is relegated to meetings and events occurring at inconvenient times and in places divorced from the physical locations that are being affected. Action Path is an in-development mobile app and background service that pushes location-based civic engagement opportunities to users as they walk down the street, enabling robust feedback and actions to happen in moments that fit everyday routines.
