The aim of the Leveraged Freedom Chair (LFC) Prime project is to transfer LFC technology, which was initially created for the developing world, to wealthier/western markets. This project includes testing the developing world version of the LFC with lead users who ride off road wheelchairs in order to ascertain design features that need to be modified or added on the Prime. The LFC and LFC Prime are being used as a case study for the engineering design methodology behind Constraint-Driven Innovation, where a high-performance, low-cost technology can be identified as a Disruptive Innovation, and then transferred to wealthy markets through the process of Reverse Innovation.
