Advances in mobile technologies, such as smartphones and similar devices, enable direct delivery of high quality, spatially and temporally dynamic information to and among users, operators and planners of urban systems. To begin to understand the practical applications and effects of these advances, I have been involved in projects:
(*) Developing a smartphone-based activity survey technology intended to replace traditional travel survey approaches;(*) Designing ways to measure the effects of real-time information on urban transportation system users;(*) Exploring ways that aggregate digital data sources, such as coming from cell phone towers, can be used to help validate urban models.
