LightBridge is an interactive urban display to celebrate the 150th anniversary of MIT. The installation, which took place at the Harvard Bridge in May 2011, consisted of 10,000 individually-addressable LED lights that reacted to different elements of the environment. From visualizing wind patterns to creating engaging interactions with pedestrians, the bridge’s behavior evolved throughout the night.
Sensors in the display respond to the movement of pedestrians on the bridge and ambient data such as the weather, blurring the boundaries between traditional city lighting and the responsive infrastructures of tomorrow.
