The Communications industry is witnessing emerging and destabilizing events where an industry structure built originally around centralized intelligence and control is being challenged with intelligence and control shifting to the edge of the network in many instances. The charter of the Core-Edge working group is to: create a useful taxonomy for the core-edge spectrum of the communications network, understand more deeply the business models and economics of playing in different places along the core-edge continuum, and develop models of the dynamics (technology dynamics, business dynamics, policy dynamics) of how network functions and applications move along the core-edge spectrum.
